[ARCHIVED] Population survey to gauge COVID-19 symptoms in Douglas County

COVID for web

LAWRENCE – Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health and Unified Command partners City of Lawrence, Douglas County and LMH Health are grateful that more than 11,000 Douglas County residents responded to the first wave of a population survey that asked whether they had or did not have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19). The survey window began Friday, April 17, and closed at 5 p.m. Monday, April 20.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak began earlier this year, more than 1,100 people have been tested in Douglas County (as of April 17, 42 have tested positive) under Kansas Department of Health and Environment protocols, which have been in place to help preserve available testing resources. Beyond those testing protocols, a population survey is a way to identify the percentage of the population experiencing symptoms and seeking to identify potential trends geographically on the potential spread of the virus.

The information is confidential and will only be used by Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health to determine how potentially prevalent COVID-19 is in the community.

We will announce further information about the survey results in coming days, and we will plan to open the second window for survey responses soon.

“We ask Douglas County residents to fill out the survey accurately and completely, to let us know whether they are currently experiencing symptoms or not. Completing the survey is voluntary, but we ask that as many people as possible participate to get a good picture of how the coronavirus is affecting the community,” said Sonia Jordan, Director of Informatics at Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health.

Anyone with questions about the survey can call the Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health Coronavirus Hotline at 785-856-4343 or email info@ldchealth.org.
