Health in All Policies (HiAP) is a collaborative approach to articulating health considerations in to policymaking and programming across various sectors including local and state governments. The overarching goal of HiAP is to improve the health and wellbeing of communities and people, regardless of where they live, work, and play.

How does LDCPH implement HiAP in our organization?

  • Through the development of health impact assessments for internal policies.
  • Providing health impact assessment for external community partners who are interested in learning about health outcomes of a policy.
  • Developing a policy agenda that is in line with our Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).
  • Creation of policy briefs on various topics.
  • Development of an internal committee to review health impact assessments.

The Health Impact Checklist (HI-C) is a condensed form of the health impact assessment that LDCPH uses to review policies for positive or negative health impacts. The HI-C assessment was originally developed by the Kansas Health Institute, and implemented by LDCPH in 2024 as part of the Pathways to a Healthier Kansas initiative through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas.
